Using Adobe Photoshop software, you will build a working knowledge of “navigating” the Photoshop workspace, basic document manipulation, a basic understanding of graphic file types, color modes, color selection, painting tools, and basic selection techniques. Joomla is a popular Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that
will enable you to make professional, full-featured websites quickly and
efficiently. Joomla requires no technical knowledge of coding and can be
easily extended and customized using an incredible range of over 4000
available extensions (e.g. Flash-driven image and video galleries, shopping
carts, forums, event calendars). In this course you will learn how to

A weblog, or simply “blog”, is a Web site or Web page that is used as an
online journal, commentary, news or information source, or opinion. Blogs
are often written and maintained by a single person, though some blogs
for a company or large organization are written and maintained by several
people. Podcasts are usually relatively short (<10 minutes), audio or video
clips about a specific topic. They can be as varied as the magazine rack of
your local bookstore. This interactive session will walk you through the

Introduction to Programming Using Java (COAP 1878)
This course introduces you to general programming concepts using Java as
a tool for learning, and it can serve as the foundation course for a complete
path in computer programming skills. Topics covered include basic
programming constructs, variables and expressions, data types, reading
data input, branching, looping and arrays. It introduces the principles of
object-oriented programming and algorithm design. Hands-on exercises
during class will allow you to practice these skills. You will receive a
manual for future reference. In addition, students are expected to work on
assignments outside class hours.
Prerequisites: Basic typing skills are mandatory and students should
be comfortable in the use of the Windows. No prior programming

Keyboarding - Introductory (TYPG 1600)
Learn the lifelong skill of “touch keyboarding” (not looking at the keys) to increase your efficiency when entering alphabetic text. This course is ideal for beginners or people with rusty keyboarding skills. By the end of the course, you may achieve a touch keyboarding rate of 20–25 words per minute based on three or five minute timings and upon the amount of time that you practice.

Keyboarding and Speed Building - Advanced (TYPG 1601)
You will review the skill of “touch keyboarding” while increasing your
speed and improving your accuracy. You may achieve a touch keyboarding
rate of 25 – 50 words per minute depending upon your previous skill level
and the amount of time that you practice. At the end of the course, you will
receive a certificate stating your keyboarding speed in words per minute.

Macintosh - Introduction (COAP 1442)
This class will introduce students to the Macintosh computer and Mac OS X. The Mac OS X or Leopard is one of the most powerful and stable operating systems ever developed. It is extremely easy to use and has many features which improve productivity. The student will learn file management and basic Mac Maintenance. Some of the many features available to the user are icon management in the Dock, folder creation and customization, desktop arrangement, Desktop Utilities, View Options for open folder windows and System Preferences. The maintenance routines include the use of Disc Utility and Keyboard procedures which will keep the Macintosh performing at optimal levels.

MS Office for Macintosh - Introduction (COAP 1460)
This class will introduce students already familiar with the Macintosh and Mac OS X, to Microsoft Office 2008. The primary applications are Word 12, Excel 12 and PowerPoint 12. The Office 2008 suite contains many other auxiliary programs such as Microsoft Project Gallery which come into play while using the primary applications. The word section will include the creation, formatting, saving and printing of documents. The Excel section will include the creation of spreadsheet workbooks which includes formatting, data entry, formula building, chart making and printing of the material. The PowerPoint section includes the production, editing, saving, viewing and printing of PowerPoint slideshows. Multimedia items are used extensively while creating PowerPoint shows.

Programming in an Android Environment (COAP 1949)
This course will provide the basic concepts for developing a mobile
application in an Android environment. The course will include discussions
of the Eclipse environment along with an Android emulator to make
development of a mobile application an easy task. The basic building
blocks of an Android enabled application will be discussed including
activities and intents. This course will work through developing
applications that accept user input, use images and sound, and download
and upload data from a network. How to test and publish Android
applications will also be discussed.
Prerequisites: A good understanding of the Java programming
language, particularly object oriented concepts, is required. A good
understanding of C++ including object oriented concepts would be an
acceptable substitution for the Java background.

Programming in an Android Environment - Advanced (COAP Interest List)
This course will cover advanced concepts used in developing a mobile
application in an Android environment. The course will include use of
Adapters in Android for supporting Model View Controller pattern,
responding to and creating system wide broadcasts, create/use content
providers and exploring different system services.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of COAP 1949 Programming in
an Android Environment or a basic understanding of how to develop an
Android application. Knowledge with the Eclipse Android environment
