GED Grade 12 Equivalency

General Educational Development (GED) Exam

The GED exam provides an alternative for adults who wish to obtain a high school standing. The GED exam is a five-part, multiple choice and essay exam which tests Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science during approximately 7 ½ hours of examination time (see GED Testing Schedules below). The GED exam tests intellectual maturity as opposed to the ability to recall specific facts in a given subject area. Many of the test questions measure the adult’s general ability to evaluate on the basis of given information, synthesize and then draw conclusions.

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in a regular high school program.

To apply for the official GED testing, pick up an application form at your local SIAST campus or visit the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration website to download the form at http://www.er.gov.sk.ca/ged. Once completed, send it to the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration along with the $35 examination fee payment. When processed, a letter confirming your approval will be sent to you from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration.

Students must present the original copy of the letter confirming your approval to write received from Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration and photo ID at the examination time. Although your Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration approval receipt is good for any test date within one year, the exams are administered on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive half an hour early to ensure a space.
