Career Assessment and Testing Services

Individuals who wish to enhance their career decision making and planning through one or a battery of career assessment instruments may do so by first meeting with a Career Services counsellor to ensure that the assessment instruments selected will meet the specific needs of the individual. There is no fee for an initial career counselling appointment. However, there is a charge for any career assessment tests used in the counselling process.

Getting to Know Yourself: The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The MBTI is a personality inventory that can assist you in career planning, stress management and intra- and inter-personal development. Each of 16 personality types is discussed in terms of its gifts and contributions in positive terms, which promotes self-awareness, self-understanding and more informed decision-making.

Career Action Planning and Portfolio Development Workshop

Career Action Planning and Portfolio Development is a four-day workshop in Moose Jaw. Each participant assesses his or her work interests, abilities and personality type. This information is used to explore and identify career options. Activities include library research, online research and one-on-one guidance with a career planning facilitator.

Each participant has the opportunity to create a Career Plan of Action that identifies short- and long-term goals, plans to overcome barriers and possible funding opportunities. Each participant creates an employment portfolio to use during a job search.

All materials are provided free of charge. The workshop is free, confidential and open to anyone, over the age of 18, interested in doing career research and exploration.

Exploring Career Counselling

Career Services counsellors use a holistic approach with different models of career decision-making and systematic career counselling. A process that works for many people involves eight stages as described below. You and your counsellor will decide whether you need counsellor assistance for all the stages and which activities will best meet your needs. It is important to note that time is an important factor in the process and the more you put into it, the more you can expect to get out of it.

Exploring Your Career Development: Making a Good Career Decision

A career assessment provides an opportunity for you to discover information about your interests, personality and aptitudes—the selfunderstanding needed for you to make an informed decision about your career options. A counsellor and you will use the results of interest, personality and aptitude assessments to guide you in your career decisionmaking process.
