Pesticide Applicator and Dispenser Training Courses

The Saskatchewan Pesticide Education Program fulfills the legislated requirements for licensing commercial pesticide applicators in Saskatchewan. It also meets the national standard for pesticide applicator training so holders of Saskatchewan applicator licenses can usually obtain a license in another province.

Course content includes safety and personal protection, legislation relating to pest control, pests and their control, interpretation of pesticide labels and calculations related to pest control procedures.

Structural Pesticide Applicator (PEST 174)

You will learn how to control pests in and around structures such as homes, businesses, public buildings and storage facilities. Course content includes rodent control on public and private land (e.g., commercial and municipal pest control officers).

Agriculture Pesticide Applicator (PEST 167)

Your studies will focus on pest control products as part of primary agricultural production for the control of weeds, insects and diseases. Course content includes on-farm seed treatment, rodent control and weed control in farm ponds, dugouts and shelterbelts (e.g., custom applicators spraying crops).

Forestry Pesticide Applicator course includes the ground application of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides in forest management operations. Fumigation Pesticide Applicator (PEST 169)

You will learn how to use fumigants for soil fumigation or to control pests of stored products in buildings, grain bins and elevators, rail cars, trucks and containers (e.g., fumigation of flour mills or grain storage facilities).

Tree Pruning (PEST 165)

You will gain the basic skills and knowledge needed to understand how pruning affects the development and survival of trees. You will also learn how pruning is used for disease prevention. The course consists of classroom instruction and practical application of the principles of tree pruning. You will practice pruning under an instructor’s guidance. Homeowners, landscapers and tree pruners (commercial and municipal) will benefit from this course. It meets requirements for elm tree pruners in Saskatchewan under Dutch Elm Disease regulations.
