This course will appeal to those involved in the application, enforcement, sales, installation and testing of backflow preventers. The first part of the course deals with the principles of cross connections, application of devices and current regulations and bylaws. The balance of time is dedicated to hands-on testing in our Cross Connection Control Lab.
Exam to be written on last day of class.

Recertification is required every five years.

Gas Fitters License Preparation (PIPE 1801)
Theory and practical instruction is provided to prepare piping trades people to write the provincial gas examination. Persons wishing to write the exam must prove fourth year apprentice status in either the plumbing or pipe fitting trades or Journeyperson status in the Refrigeration Mechanic trade for the Domestic Gas Fitters exam and Journeyperson status in the plumbing, pipe fitting trade for the General Gas License. There will be separate classes for those challenging the domestic and the general gas exam.
Note: You must register with the Apprenticeship Board one month prior to this course to write your Exam.

Halocarbon Certification (AIR 1801)

Overhead Crane Operation (HEOP 1801)
You will learn the theoretical and practical application of the OTC (Overhead Traveling Crane). Training emphasizes on practical and safetyoriented components of crane operation and rigging. Rigging is the safe use of hardware such as slings, shackles, eyebolts, chain hoists and comea- longs in lifting operations. Upon completion of all learning outcomes, you will obtain a certificate stating you are a competent operator of up to (but not including) 50 tonne Overhead Travelling Crane according to OH&S regulations.
SIAST also offers this course at dates and times suitable for employers’ training staff.

Safety Construction Orientation Training (SFTY 1213)
The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association and SIAST offer the Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) course. Individuals seeking employment in the construction industry are strongly encouraged to acquire this certification, which is required on most large government and private construction sites.
The CSTS program is an interactive video computer system designed to train you in the basics of construction safety. It is a performance-based program that requires 100% mastery of the 12 lessons (listed below), which take approximately 5 hours to complete. The program is divided into lessons and topics. Students can repeat any topic as often as required. Each lesson consists of a study, check and test section. Training can be completed on a flexible schedule. It is easy to use, easy to understand, affordable and accessible.
