You will learn the processes related to the possession, administration, prescribing and selling and transportation of medications listed in Schedule 3 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Saskatchewan Prescriptive Review Program. The course focuses on how to use these medications safely and appropriately in the pharmacotherapeutic management of your clients’ conditions.  

Prerequisites: Informed by the SRNA that you are eligible for licensure as a registered nurse (nurse practitioner).

You will learn about the concepts of pathophysiology to support your clinical decision making for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions that commonly present in a primary care setting. You will study the mechanism(s) underlying various conditions to assist in understanding how and why the signs and symptoms of these conditions appear so that rational therapy can be devised. Your knowledge gained in this course will lay a foundation for the management of primary care issues of the family and its members.

You will learn to perform cervical screening according to the clinical practice guidelines in Saskatchewan. As a registered nurse participating in this interactive workshop, you should ideally be working in an environment where women’s health is a regular part of your role.

As a practitioner participating in this interactive workshop, you should ideally be working in an environment where radiographic film interpretation is part of your role, but you may also be interested if you are a practitioner making referrals for X-rays at another location.
