Continuing Nursing Education

Your studies will focus on the concepts of holistic nursing care related to specific health challenges of the older adult. You will discuss the concepts related to growth and development of the adult and older adult, and examine the concept of polypharmacy in the older adult. You will also discuss the introductory concepts of microbiology and selected specific microorganisms. You will explore the chain of infection and learn about emerging infections in Canadian communities.

You will focus on the administration of medications throughout the lifespan in the context of systems and patient safety. Your studies will include aspects of the metric system essential for the classification of medication dosages for adults and children. You will explore the principles concerning safe administration of medications and learn how to prepare and safely administer medications via the enteral, percutaneous and parenteral (subcutaneous, intramuscular and intradermal) routes.

Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam Prep Workshop (NURS 1657)

This two day workshop will assist nurse graduates who are preparing to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE). The workshop includes theory review, exam practice and multiple choice exam strategies. Both internationally educated and Canadian graduate nurses will find the workshop helpful as they prepare to write the CPRNE.

Canadian Registered Nurse Exam Preparation Workshop (NURS 1645)

Catheterization Completer Course (NURS 1640)

This course is for licensed practical nurses that require more knowledge and skill ability with catheterizations. You will enhance your skills in male and female catheterization, bladder irrigation and removing a urinary catheter. For the theory portion of the course, you will be required to complete the workbook, view a video and write an examination. Upon successful completion of the theory portion of the course, you will be required to attend a lab. During the lab, time will be provided for practicing and testing of the skill.

Cervical Screening for RN’s (NURS 1671)

You will learn the anatomy, structure and function of the nail, foot and skin. You will learn how to identify common nail and skin pathology, as well as structural pathology of the foot and related nursing interventions. You will learn about common instruments used in foot care and how to care for them, utilizing Health Canada’s guidelines. This course is for licensed practical nurses that require more knowledge and skill ability for intramuscular injections (IM). For the theory portion of the course, you will be required to complete the workbook, view a video and write an examination. Upon successful completion of the theory portion of the course, you will be required to attend a lab. During the lab, time will be provided for practicing and testing of the skill.

You will have the opportunity to study decontamination in medical device reprocessing. You will discuss agents for cleaning and disinfection as well as study various equipment used to decontaminate surgical instruments and patient care equipment.
