Literacy Skills
Learn to Read is a literacy volunteer tutor program that is offered free of charge. Tutors work with students on a one-to-one basis between two and five hours per week. Materials are provided.

CELBAN is a Canadian-based language proficiency test specifically developed for nurses who require language proficiency for licensing. The test has four areas (reading, writing, speaking and listening) that are scored to create a single CLBA level score.

CLBA (Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment)
CLBA is a Canadian-based language proficiency test is one method used by SIAST to determine if students meet SIAST language proficiency requirements. The test has four areas (reading, writing, speaking and listening) that are scored to create a single CLBA level score. Each program at SIAST may have different CLBA scores.

SIAST Woodland Campus, Prince Albert
The Learning Centre offers FREE services to adult learners and provides the opportunity to identify their own educational needs. People can work on a specific class or receive general assistance with improving their skills in areas such as reading, writing or mathematics on a part-time basis. General Educational Development (GED) Preparatory services are available.

The Literacy Centre assists adults with less than a grade 6 reading level to improve their reading, writing, spelling, computer literacy and math skills. Literacy learning will be linked with employment preparation and the Circle of Learning, Benchmarks Levels 1 and 2. Participants begin at their own level and work at their own rate. New students are admitted from September to June.

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)
SIAST Wascana Campus, Regina
This is an internationally recognized English language proficiency test. It is a two-hour test with multiple-choice questions on listening and reading. You will receive a certificate that can be used to demonstrate to employers your ability to use English in the workplace, or to show that you have sufficient English skills to take further English training.
