Writing Business Emails and Letters with Clarity (BCOM 1612)
This workshop will focus on writing, proofreading, editing and formatting
business emails and letters using the Canadian Press Stylebook as the
writing guide. You will learn how to prepare clear and professional
Business Emails and Letters using plain language principles with a focus
on sentence structure, verb tenses, fixing common grammatical and
punctuation errors, and proofreading. Writing skills will improve through
practical exercises and by receiving feedback from the instructor and peers.

Business Report Writing (RPRT 1600)
This two-day workshop focuses on creating professional formal and informal business reports. Participants will learn strategies to organize information and skills to improve their business writing. They will work through the writing process for report writing using Canadian Press writing style. The writing process includes prewriting (research methods, data gathering and documentation); writing (putting it together and creating a first draft) and post writing (revising, editing and proofreading). Writing skills will improve through completing practical exercises and by receiving feedback from the instructor and peers. Each participant will prepare and submit a minimum of one report for instructor feedback.

Business Writing and Effective Email (BCOM 1611)
This workshop develops the skills required for efficient and effective business writing and focuses on the preparation of e-mails. The topics that will be taught are: plain language principles; the writing process; English grammar review (including editing and proofreading, sentence structure, verb tenses, punctuation and capitalization); the elements of preparing emails that are clear and concise, positive in tone and written with your audience in mind. Writing skills will improve through practical exercises, including preparing emails in computer lab, and by receiving feedback from the instructor and peers. A grammar pre and post test will be
administered to determine participant’s learning gain.

Business Writing for Results (BCOM 1604)
This business writing intensive focuses on the preparation and format of the common types of business correspondence which includes letters, emails, memos and simple reports. Each participant will learn: the writing process; the purpose and types of business correspondence; plain language principles; and how to recognize and correct common grammatical and punctuation errors. Writing skills will improve through practical exercises and by receiving feedback from the instructor and peers. Each participant will prepare and submit at least one piece of writing for instructor feedback. This workshop uses Canadian Press style which is becoming the accepted writing standard for Saskatchewan businesses.

Creating Persuasive Proposals (COMM 1614)
When do you write a proposal? Should you use a formal or informal proposal style? Identify the components of each style and discuss how to present your proposal effectively. Develop your skills with practical exercises where you will prepare a formal and an informal proposal. Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of a proposal that they are working on or have recently prepared.

Develop the skills required for efficient and effective e-mail communication that gets your message across. Course includes the elements of effective writing which will help you create clear, concise emails that are positive in tone and written with your audience in mind. Practical exercises allow you to edit and create emails for a variety of situations.

Getting Your Message Out (DSGN 1600)
Do you need ideas about promoting work or volunteer events? During this workshop you will learn how to plan brochures and newsletters which will get attention. You will also learn when to provide information in a brochure or newsletter and when to provide it on your website.

Grammar and Punctuation (BCOM 1609)
Effective business communication is grammatically correct, clear, concise
and easy to understand. In this interactive workshop, you will learn and
practice skills to enable you to write effective sentences. Examine the roles
of the various parts of speech and understand how each functions in a
sentence. By considering word choice, learn how to eliminate wordiness.
You will understand that punctuation is an aid to meaning and learn how
to correct the most common punctuation errors. Practical exercises,
instructor and peer feedback will help you to improve your grammar and
punctuation skills. This course is offered in CP (Canadian Press) style.
This workshop is available in a simultaneous web-environment (live
on your computer) providing that you have a webcam with a microphone,

Minute Taking (OPRO 1601)
Do you have to take minutes at your next meeting? Attend this workshop and learn what to include in minutes for formal and informal meetings. Learn how to record motions and how to prepare an executive summary for lengthy minutes. Practical exercises allow you to prepare a meeting agenda and create sample minutes.

Polishing Your Business Writing - Revising and Editing (BCOM 1610)
This one-day advanced writing workshop is geared to those who want to refresh and polish their writing skills. The course will cover revision as part of the writing process. Each participant will learn what to look for when revising the content and the organization of business writing. You will analyze paragraphs and sentences for common grammatical errors and learn how to fix them. Participants will also review proper use of punctuation, proofreading strategies and citation and documentation of sources.
Editing and revision skills will improve through completing practical exercises and by receiving feedback from the instructor and peers. This course is offered in Canadian Press style however, citation and document of sources uses APA (American Psychological Association) style.

This workshop discusses both standard and editorial proofreading techniques that include editing and proofreading strategies and tools.
