This course is designed to familiarize service technicians with the operation, servicing and troubleshooting procedures of air brake systems, including ABS systems. Detailed instruction will be provided in the application of air brake systems presently used in the industry. Operational air brake boards will be utilized for practical training. Statements of Attendance are issued to those who successfully pass a written examination upon completion of the course. Successful completion is recognized by the Vehicle Standards and Inspection Divisions and is also a requirement for Vehicle Inspection Certification (70% required for credit).

This is an opportunity to build your own project in our Carpentry shop. Students will supply their own plans and materials for the project, which is subject to approval by the instructor at the first class, based on size and difficulty. Students must be familiar with power tools, or have taken a power tool class.

In this course you will become familiar with the fundamentals of cabinet construction, including shelves, drawers, edging, etc. After consultation with the instructor, you will draw or bring along a drawing, develop a materials list and create a project of your own. You will be responsible for the cost of building materials, such as wood or arborite, but miscellaneous fasteners and supplies will be provided.

This course is intended for students with little or no previous woodworking experience. It is designed to familiarize you with the fundamentals of cabinet construction. You will construct a specified project that will cover basic aspects of introductory cabinet construction. All materials will be supplied, including project plans. You will be required to make a full scale working layout and a cutting sheet.

This is a Global certified course based on the Pipeline Act and Regulations. Students learn the basic legal requirements and expectations through all major aspects of the ground disturbance process. Pre-job preparation, search methods for underground facilities, notification requirements, locating and hand exposure, permitting, crossing agreements, hand exposure requirements, backfill inspections and reporting requirements.

This is an ENFORM certified course designed to teach students about the dangers of Hydrogen Sulfide gas and how to anticipate problems before encountering this gas. They learn how to wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and how to operate gas detection equipment.

Learn how to do small home-based plumbing projects. Topics include: terminology and tools, working with pipes and fittings (copper, ABS, PVC, galvanized, Pex-Pipe/Box Plastic/Kitec, etc.) bathroom installation, sink and dishwasher installation, and hot water tanks. Course will include theory, demonstrations, and some hands-on projects.

You will study the theory and have the opportunity to practice the skills required to conduct hearing tests on noise-exposed workers in industry. You will analyze hearing test results and the necessary process to advise workers on the results of their hearing tests. After the course you will be prepared to counsel workers on hearing test results, advise them about hearing protection and administer hearing conservation programs.

Prerequisites: This course should be taken by OHS Professionals working in the Occupational Health and Safety field, Occupational Health Nurses, Health Nurses and those responsible for implementing an employer’s Hearing Conservation Program.

This course is intended to assist students to prepare to write the Technical Safety Authority of Saskatchewan Limited Power Engineering (Fireman’s Certificate) exam. Topics include: low pressure heat boilers, fuel and firing equipment, automatic controls, pumps, piping fittings, valves, steam and hot water heating, ventilation, basic electricity, and the Boiler Pressure Vessel Act and Regulations. This essential first course in lathe work will provide experience in selection and preparation of lather tooling, shop safety, precision measure, and speed and feed calculations. This course will provide hands-on experience in milling set-up and operation with the focus on machine types and construction, cutter selection, machine alignment, speed and feed calculations and machine maintenance.

This course will provide instruction in safety, precision measuring with vernier calipers depth gauges, micrometers, telescoping gauges and hole gauges. You will also learn to service engine lathe, grind lathe cutting tools, use dial indicators, lathe work holding devices and perform face and centre drill operations as well as turn between centres.

This course will provide instruction on safety for lathe operations. You will also learn how to drill, bore and ream, perform knurling operations, perform grooving, parting, and tapping as well as external threading including various thread forms.

This course will provide hands-on experience in machine set-up and operation with the focus on machine operation. Practical experience will be derived from programming and creating the following external shapes: grooves, radii straight threads, tapers and shouldered shafts. Internal lathe operations will be demonstrated.

 

This course covers programming a CNC vertical machining centre. Basic advanced techniques are taught as well as programming methods. This is an introductory course in to using Mastercam. Topics include 2D geometry creation, 2D toolpaths on a vertical milling machine, and tips and techniques on how to perform common functions on Mastercam toolpath verification.

You will learn about the regulations governing the use of N95 masks. Proper techniques for donning and doffing masks will be covered. You will be personally fitted with an N95 mask.

You must be clean shaven. Please consult your physician prior to registering if you have medical or other conditions that might affect your ability to wear a respirator. You will complete a health screening form prior to being tested.

You will learn about the regulations governing the use of N95 masks. Proper techniques for donning and doffing masks will be covered. You will be personally fitted with an N95 mask.

Oil and Gas Production Operators are in high demand and this course provides a complete overview of the oil and gas industry. You will study important industry topics, processes and trends. Topics include: basic petroleum geology, hydrocarbon reservoirs, exploration, survey systems and mineral rights, drilling operations, well completions, artificial lifts, oil and gas production facilities, natural gas processing, refining and transportation, workplace and operational safety, accident/incident investigation and analysis, confined space hazards, risk assessment and management, and lock-out procedures.

This is a four-week specialty course designed to teach the skills required to pass an all-position arc welding test.

Prerequisites: Two years of welding experience or pre-employment welding certificate

You will learn the fundamentals of welding 6” sch. 80 pipes in the 2G, 5G positions using the SMAW process. This includes proper fit-up weld joint preparation, tacking and electrode manipulation in vertical up welding. This three-week course is designed to prepare you for your first pressure qualification test and related field of work. All students require steel toed or safety shoes, safety glasses, leather gloves and protective clothing.

Participants will be provided with basic instruction in the process of SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG) and Oxy-acetylene welding and then pursue the option of their choice. All students require protective clothing.

You will learn about relevant legislation including requirements of worker training, controlled product classification, and required documentation and labelling. This hands-on course for women offers an introduction to a variety of basic trade skills. Course content includes Automotive Servicing, Building Systems, Carpentry, Machine Shop and Welding. Upon successful completion of the course, you are issued a statement of attendance.

4. Machining - you will learn to use tap and die, cutting, drilling and grinding tools
5. Building systems - you will learn basic plumbing tasks

WHMIS is a uniform, national regulatory system to inform about hazardous material (legally called “Controlled Products”). This course will enable participants to understand the intent of WHMIS symbols, labels and procedures for filling out MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) in places of employment. Participants will be trained on recognition and safe handling as well as use and storage of controlled products used at the workplace.
