Medical Laboratory Assistant

Medical Laboratory Assistant is an applied certificate program that provides the knowledge and skill development needed to perform a specific range of specimen collection and pre-analytic procedures in the medical laboratory. Your clinical experience, consisting of 9 weeks, may take place anywhere in Saskatchewan and at multiple sites. Graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant certification examination.

Selected courses in this program are available through distance and/or continuing education. The program is available full-time at SIAST Kelsey Campus in Saskatoon. This program is currently closed to application. It is now subject to the high-demand admission process, effective for the 2013 intake. Additional selection criteria will be confirmed and posted before the application period opens. The program will re-open for application from 8:00 a.m., October 1, to 4:30 p.m., February 15 (local times) each academic year. All supporting documentation is required by February 28(29). Anatomy and Physiology 1 (191) (APHY 191)

You will explore the structure and function of organs and systems in the normal human body. Your studies will focus on the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and endocrine systems.

Anatomy and Physiology 2 (282) (APHY 282)

Building on the knowledge gained in APHY 191 (Anatomy & Physiology 1) you will continue your study of the structure and function of the normal human body. Your studies will focus on the cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems.
