Financial Assistance for Students with Disabilities

If you are a student with a disability, please register your disability at least four months prior to your program start date. Contact Disability Services for additional information about support services that may be available.

Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities
Students with verified permanent disabilities who qualify for a student loan may be eligible for a Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities.

Workforce Development for Persons with Disabilities (WFD-PD)
The WFD-PD Program (formerly known as Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities (EAPD) provides funding to assist adults with disabilities to prepare for, secure and maintain employment.  The wide variety of supports available include disability-related costs for a wide variety of post-secondary education and training programs.

SIAST Accommodations Fund
SIAST's Accommodations Fund has limited funds to assist students with disabilities who are ineligible for grants to cover the costs related to required accommodations. SIAST-funded services to accommodate a disability, up to a maximum of $1,500 per full-time academic year, may be accessed by students with verified disabilities who have no other sources of funding to pay for their required accommodations.

Other Financial Assistance Options
An organization that is sponsoring the student's educational costs, including the Workers' Compensation Board, a First Nation's Band, or Métis organizations, may also cover additional disability-related costs upon request. Documentation to verify the disability and identification of requirements by a SIAST counsellor are typically required to apply for additional funding from a program sponsor. In addition, the National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) operates as a resource for other related bursary and scholarship information intended specifically for persons with disabilities.
