Funding for Students with Disabilities
For information and assistance about services for students with disabilities, contact Counselling Services at least four months prior your program start date.
Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities
Students with verified permanent disabilities who qualify for a student loan may be eligible for a Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities. Contact Counselling Services for information about disability services at your SIAST campus.
Employability Assistance for People with Disabilities (EAPD)
The Saskatchewan EAPD Program may provide funding for disability-related costs to individuals who do not qualify for a Canada Study Grant or whose requirements exceed the $10,000 Canada Study Grant limit. The EAPD provides funding for disability-related costs associated with education programs or employment. Applications are typically submitted by a community agency working with or on behalf of an individual. EAPD funding may also be requested to cover the cost of an assessment to determine the existence or extent of a disability.
SIAST Accommodations Fund
SIAST’s Accommodations Fund has limited funds to assist students with disabilities who are ineligible for grants to cover the costs related to required accommodations. SIAST-funded services to accommodate a disability, up to a maximum of $1,500 per full-time academic year, may be accessed by students with verified disabilities who have no other sources of funding to pay for their required accommodations.
Other Financial Assistance Options
An organization that is sponsoring the student’s educational costs, including the Workers' Compensation Board, a First Nation’s Band, or Métis organizations, may also cover additional disability-related costs upon request. Documentation to verify the disability and identification of requirements by a SIAST counsellor are typically required to apply for additional funding from a program sponsor. In addition, the National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS) operates as a resource for other related bursary and scholarship information intended specifically for persons with disabilities.
